Create Accountability Partners

November 10, 2009 Donna Payne Leave a comment

Yesterday, I met with some of my attendee’s of a recent Get Clients NOW! program. Even though the class officially eyesended two weeks ago, we still meet on Monday to check in, support each other and keep ourselves accountable to our goals.

I can’t tell you how much fun and support we’ve created for ourselves.  I’m so INSPIRED! :)

So, here’s my question for YOU – are you plugging in with an accountability partner once a week?  You are 65 percent more likely to accomplish your goals if you have someone watching over your shoulder.

So get with it! No excuses! There’s no time like the present… right here, right now. You CAN do it.

Have Faith in yourself. I do.

Who Sez Truckers Don’t Have Class?

Today my dear hubs called home to check in and share a short story…

He works for ABF Freight and is what’s called a “City Driver” meaning he makes local deliveries and pick-ups. On one of his regular stops a woman was apparently having a bad day. Upon his arrival, she stated:

“Why the H3LL do all you G-D truckers make your F-ing deliveries on Thursday?”

To which he replied:

“…because we know that’s when you’re at your best and most efficient!”

Silence.

And then a grin.

Now, she LOVES my husband and is looking forward to seeing him next Thursday. LOL!  Sometimes saying something nice can shock any ‘ole grouch into being your buddy.  :)

Conditioning: It’s all in your MIND!

August 27, 2009 Donna Payne Leave a comment

BrainWhile listening to an interview of Tony Robbins, Frank Kearn and John Reece, I had a lightbulb moment.  Tony was talking about “Conditioning” (around the 31-minute mark) and I thought about my DAUGHTER Jenni.

You see, Jenni’s volleyball team is a fierce force on the court compared to all the other JV teams I’ve seen.  Why? Because the team began conditioning over 6 months ago.  Yes, while she was still in 8th grade, she was conditioning for JV volleyball because she wanted to make JV, NOT the freshmen team.

And still, they condition 3 hours a day, EVERY day.  They run until they puke, wipe their mouth on their sleeve and keep on going.  They run the bleachers, up an down every aise, then go run a mile and do it all over again.

Now it’s YOUR turn:

  • If my 15 y/o daughter can condition herself to be her very best – why can’t I? YOU?
  • What shifts in our perception need to happen?
  • What steps do we need to take?

Web Coach Tip – Why WordPress? Step-By-Step Instructions to Set Up Your Own WordPress Website

Creating a client attracting, professional website does not have to cost you thousands of dollars nor do you need to have a lot of technical expertise.

Matter of fact, if you know the right tools and are a bit savvy with your computer and internet, you can do it for LESS than a couple hundred bucks.

The minimum tools you’ll need to get started are:

  • your domain and hosting with a MySQL database
  • a theme (what you call a template in the WordPress world)
  • free ftp software.  (Or Dreamweaver if you prefer)
  • a little bit of time and patience

When you purchase your domain and hosting together, most of the time a MySQL database is included in the package.

Your site is being built on a WordPress platform, a free web-based blogging tool.

Why WordPress? Because:

  1. It’s open source. Which means thousands of people are continuously updating and making it better for the greater good of mankind.
  2. YOU will be able to update your site from anywhere.  It’s web-based, you only need an internet connection and a browser to access your site.
  3. Creating new pages, uploading images, and video only takes a couple clicks and you’re done.
  4. Writing and formatting your copy is just like editing a word document.  Easy peasy.
  5. Plugins and Widgets!  These two nifty elements will add personality and function.

Before you begin, find a notebook to keep track of your passwords.  In my online client area, I create a file called “Access – Passwords n’such”, that way we can both update and have access to passwords.  Examples of passwords we keep track of are email, shopping cart, hosting, ftp, database, WordPress, audio, Facebook, Twitter etc.

Assuming you have already purchased a domain and hosting, begin by accessing your hosting companies control panel (cpanel).  There will will see common areas like “Website, Email, Domain, E-Commerce, Scripting & add-ons, Marketing Services, and Account info.”  This info may be different, as all hosting companies cpanel’s are different.

You can start with the database setup first:

  1. click on “manage MySQL Database” or “Create MySQL Database”
  2. Create a “Database Name”:
  3. Create a Database Login
  4. Create a Password:

All done.  And you wrote all of your database info down, right?  Of course you did!

Next, you’ll move to the “Scripting & Add-ons” or “Install Central” section.  There you’ll find WordPress and a bunch of other goodies.  We’re only concerned with WordPress right now.

Click on install WordPress and enter your database name, username and password when prompted.

As WordPress is installing, you’ll need to think of an administrative username, password and give an email address since you’ll be the admin of the site.  You’re almost done!

When WordPress is completely installed, you can access by typing in http://yourdomain.com/wp-admin.php and enter you’re admin username and password.

Wasn’t so bad now, was it? :)

Now it’s YOUR turn:

  • Do you have your domain and hosting purchased?
  • Have you looked at WordPress Themes yet?
  • Have you blocked out time to achieve your goals?

Three Reasons You Need to Be on FriendFeed *Now*

friendfeed

Lately, I’ve had many conversations about SEO n’such with people who are looking for the quick fix to get high Google rankings.  These kinds of people HIGHLY annoy me, because I have always preached content and article writing is really the only organic way.

So as I preach from my SEO pulpit, I know now that FriendFeed and twitter are both darlings of Google.  So get out there are start sharing what’s in your noggin people!

Go forth… Twitter, Facebook and Friendfeed!  :)

And, now Hutch’s post =======================

Three Reasons You Need to Be on FriendFeed *Now*

by Hutch Carpenter

FriendFeed has got to be one of the most innovative companies around these days. It seems every week, it’s hatched something new with its service. That alone makes it worth being there.

Then there’s the interactions. When those are rocking and rolling, it’s a lot of fun. Even a few Likes and comments are worth the experience. Of course, not everyone is engaged enough on the service to fully benefit from that. Which is something I completely understand, by the way.

I’ve got three reasons you should be on FriendFeed now. Not for the conversations. Not for the real-time experience. But three reasons that will be valuable to you personally.

The FriendFeed triple play.

#1: Google Juice

You likely know the background of much of the FriendFeed team – Google. Yeah, these guys know search. Even more importantly, they know something about how Google manages search.

So it comes as no surprise that FriendFeed can rank pretty highly in Google search results. Here’s a favorite example of mine.

Alex Scoble (yes, Robert’s brother) is planning his wedding reception. One candidate location for the reception was the Hillsboro Cultural Arts Center. But the managers of that location were not very flexible in working Alex and his fiance. On FriendFeed, Alex posted about the Hillsboro Cultural Arts Center, with some comments explaining why he was not going to use them. It’s not a flattering portrayal of the Center.

handwriting-leftarrowWell, check out what a search on the Center’s name returns: Alex’s FriendFeed entry is the #6 result.

Not something that Center wants in their search results, but a great way for Alex to let others know about his experience with the Center.
